Congratulations to two alumni from our Clinical Psychology PhD program who were promoted in the Psychology Department at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette!
Dr. Mike McDermott was recently awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. Dr. McDermott was a graduate student in Dr. Todd Smitherman’s lab and graduated in 2015. He currently directs the Health, Emotion, Anxiety, and Trauma Lab, which studies mechanisms by which psychological disorders contribute to medical problems and health risk behaviors (e.g., substance use).
Dr. Emily Sandoz was also awarded promotion to Full Professor. Dr. Sandoz was a graduate student in Dr. Kelly Wilson’s lab and graduated in 2010. She currently directs the Louisiana Contextual Science Research Group, which examines specific theoretical perspectives grounded in behaviorism with an emphasis on Relational Frame Theory and the psychological flexibility model in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
