Sydney Wicks, PhD student in the Experimental Psychology program, was awarded the Junior Scientist Fellowship for his project: “Cyberostracism, Rejection, and the Willingness to Spread Misinformation” The project is being funded by the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students. The research will examine the factors that lead people to share misinformation online. The study will experimentally investigate the role of being ignored and rejected online in potentially motivating people to be more willing to share inaccurate or unverified news information through social media.
